techniques for leading long-form improv over ZooM

This workshop will aim to give improv teachers and coaches a range of tools, techniques, and exercises to conduct lessons and run seamless, satisfying long-form improv over Zoom. As improvisors, we train to think on our feet, adapt quickly, and find a sense of play within new and extraordinary circumstances. Right now, while improv theaters and training centers are closed in order to protect society’s physical well-being, we can still create space for laughter, creativity, and connection in order to sustain and bolster mental health. Using a simple video-chat platform and scaffold exercises, this workshop will empower participants to continue working with students remotely, during this time of crisis.
In order to accommodate individuals with different time constraints, this course will be offered in two forms:
Synchronous - in which participants will be joining and collaborating live via Zoom video chat
Asynchronous - as a workshop recording, that can be viewed at any time via password protected link
This workshop will feature:
Highly collaborative group participation
Instruction on how to use Zoom, a remote video-chat platform, for live, virtual instruction (including the use of breakout-rooms, messaging over chat, and more)
Improv exercises that can be adapted to meet the needs of students at any age or level
Tools and techniques for teaching and performing virtual long-form improv
Debriefs throughout, ending with a period to share creative ideas for online improv instruction
